DAY 9 - JULY 27
HEAVEN-ORIENTED LIFE
O Lord Jesus, our Saviour who ascended to Your Father's abode saying, “I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me” (Jn 14/2), we adore, praise, worship and glorify you. We long to reach the heavenly abode you have prepared for us. Enable us to live in lasting love and harmony with God, like St. Alphonsa who won her crown of sainthood by awaiting the arrival of her Heavenly Bridegroom as the intelligent virgins of the Gospel did with their oil lamps lighted with hope and piety. Help us not to model our lives after the image of the world around us, but let our behavior change, and our minds be renewed according to Your will. Make us worthy to appear before Your glorious throne singing your praises with all the saints and the choir of angels. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Lord of all, forever. Amen.

PRAYER: Lord, our God, illumine our hearts and minds to hear and understand the sweet voice of Your life-giving and Divine commandments. In Your mercy and grace grant that they bear in us the fruits of love, hope and salvation, beneficial to our body and soul and that we may constantly praise You, Lord of all, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, Lord of all, forever. Amen.

FROM THE WRITINGS OF ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
If we desire to live in honor and to be esteemed by our neighbors, then we shall never be solidly rooted in God our Lord, and it will be impossible for us to remain undisturbed when insults come our way [Ep. 1:86].
If we find that we are without the patience to endure insults from others we, then, have greater reason to complain, not because of those who injure us, but because of our own sensuality and carnal inclinations, and because we are not as mortified or dead to the world as we should be. These people are offering us opportunities for gaining a treasure greater than anyone can win in this life, and riches more numerous than anyone can accumulate in this world [Ep. 1:86-87].

“After the love which we owe Jesus Christ, we must give the chief place in our heart to the love of His Mother Mary.” — St. Alphonsus!
PRAYER: O my glorious and well-beloved patron, Saint Alphonsus, thou who didst toil and suffer so abundantly to assure to men the fruits of the Redemption, behold the miseries of my poor soul and have pity on me. By thy powerful intercession with Jesus and Mary, obtain for me true repentance for my sins together with their pardon and remission, a deep hatred of sin, and strength evermore to resist all temptations. Share with me, I pray, at least a spark of that fire of love wherewith thy heart did ever burn; and grant that, following thy example, I may make the will of God the only rule of my life. Obtain for me likewise a fervent and lasting love of Jesus, and a tender and childlike devotion to Mary, together with the grace to pray without ceasing and to persevere in the service of God even to the end of my life, so that I may finally be united with thee in praising God and most holy Mary through all eternity. Amen.

Saint John Marie Baptist Vianney, what confidence the people had in your prayers! You could not leave your old rectory or your humble church without being surrounded by imploring souls, who appealed to you as they would have appealed to Jesus Himself during His earthly life.
And you, O good Saint, gave them hope by your words, which were full of love for God. You, who had always counted entirely on the heart of God, obtain for me a deep filial trust in His Providence. As the hope of divine goods fills my heart, give me courage and help me to always obey the Commandments of God.
