DEVOTION TO ST. DOMINIC
This is the covenant with them which I myself have made, says the Lord: and my words that I have put into your mouth shall never leave your mouth, nor the mouths of your children, nor the mouths of your children's children, from now on and forever, says the Lord. (Isaiah 59:21)
PRAYER
O God, who enlightened your Church by the merits and teachings of blessed Dominic, your confessor and our father, grant through his intercession that it may never be destitute of temporal help, and may always increase in spiritual growth. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DAY 7 - AUGUST 7
St. Lawrence is tortured on the gridiron:
Thus spoke the prefect. At his nod
Forthwith the executioner
Stripped off the holy martyr's robes
And laid him bound upon the pyre.
When slow, consuming heat had seared
The flesh of Lawrence for a space,
He calmly from his gridiron made
This terse proposal to the judge:
'Pray turn my body, on one side
Already broiled sufficiently,
And see how well your Vulcan's fire
Has wrought its cruel punishment.'
PRAYER
Glorious St. Lawrence, model of Christian fortitude, I implore you in your loving kindness to pray for me before the throne of God. To you I have recourse in the problems that daily surround me. Shield me against my selfishness and my indifference to God and my neighbour. Inspire me to imitate your Christian virtues. May your blessing be with me always, so that I may see and serve Christ in others and work for His Kingdom. DAY 6 - AUGUST 7
Generous Saint Clare, who left wealth and pleasure and all earthly goods to become the first spiritual daughter of Saint Francis and to serve God in the cloister, help us to commit our lives to God without limit or measure so that He may live in us and shine forth from us to all whose lives touch ours. You, who loved souls so much as to make your life a continual sacrifice for them, obtain for us the graces we now implore and win for us the strength to praise God in suffering as well as in joy. Amen.
PRAYER
O most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we praise your Holy Name and the wonders of grace you worked in your servant, Saint Clare. Through her powerful intercession, grant us the favours we beg in this novena, above all the grace to live and die as she did in your most Holy Love. Amen.

DAY 6 - AUGUST 7
O Virgin and Martyr, St. Philomena, you were patient in your endurance to all the sufferings and sacrifices. You did so because you viewed that all the glories of this world are pure vanity. You were not attached to anything or anyone. You have your eyes always set on eternity. Help us to live this virtue of detachment so that we may be ready to do anything that Jesus asks of us. Help us put distance to the happiness and successes of this life so that we may also learn to look forward to the happiness of heaven. We ask you, dear saint, to help us develop a heart that is attached only to God. Amen.
PRAYER
O faithful Virgin and glorious Martyr, St. Philomena, who works so many miracles on behalf of the poor and sorrowing, have pity on me. You know the multitude and diversity of my needs. Behold me at your feet, full of misery, but full of hope. I entreat your charity, O great saint! Mary, Assumed into Heaven, we venerate you as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. As you tasted the bitterness of pain and sorrow with your Son on earth, you now enjoy eternal bliss with Him in Heaven. Loving Queen, intercede for us in our needs.

Glorious Saint Roque, who from thy childhood wast brought up by thy pious and noble parents in the holy fear of God, thou hast ever been inclined to the service of Jesus Christ and to every work of piety, we implore thee to obtain for us pardon for the faults and wanderings of our youth and a life exempt from every stain during the remaining time which the Divine Mercy will yet grant us on earth.

Dear mendicant Pilgrim, you once took care of sufferers from the plague and were always ready to help others by kind service and fervent prayers. You yourself had no home and you died in a dungeon. No wonder countless invalids have confidently invoked your help. Please grant a cure to this patient, (Name), and help us all become spiritually healthy. Amen.
O great St. Roque, deliver us, we beseech thee, from the scourges of God; through thy intercession, preserve our bodies from contagious diseases, and our souls from the contagion of sin. Obtain for us salubrious air; but, above all, purity of heart. Assist us to make good use of health, to bear sufferings with patience; and, after thy example, to live in the practice of penance and charity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness which thou has merited by thy virtues.
