Lord, we thank You for giving us St. Aloysius Gonzaga as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the love of You he showed by living a life of holy service devoted to You. St. Aloysius Gonzaga, you endured a lot of suffering in your life, but you chose to faithfully serve God. You continued to follow your vocation, despite many obstacles. Please continue to bring my petitions before the throne of God!

You did all you could to serve God wholeheartedly, even choosing to care for those suffering from contagious disease. When you died, you were focused on the crucifix and attempting to say the name of Jesus. Pray for me, that I may be as faithful to God throughout my life as you were. Pray that I may always choose to serve God, no matter how difficult it might be. Amen.

DAY 8 - JUNE 20
Most holy body and blood of Christ, live in our hearts and minds at all times.
Most Holy and Almighty God, we thank you and praise you for giving us the most precious body and blood of Your only son, Jesus Christ. Through the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion we are able to nourish our bodies and souls. We thank you for having made Yourself our food and for uniting us with You in this beautiful Sacrament.
In receiving the body and blood of Jesus, we live in You and through You. We praise you for offering Yourself as a continual sacrifice to Your Eternal Father for our salvation. Although we are not worthy to receive You, You sacrifice Yourself for us daily. And so, we request your most Holy intercession:

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, You made the ultimate sacrifice so that You could wash away the sins of the whole world. You have left us the great gift of your body and blood through the Holy Eucharist. REFLECTION: PERSEVERANCE AND TRUST
Lord God, we honor the memory of our Saint, Saint Thomas More.
In his earthly life, he was a loyal child of God and a steadfast son of the Church, never taking his eyes off the crown for which he strove.
Even in the face of death, he trusted in God to give him the victory, and was rewarded with the palm of martyrdom.
We ask that you grant to us, through his prayers and intercession, the grace of final perseverance and ultimate trust in you that we may one day enjoy the Beatific Vision in your glorious company.
We also ask that, through his powerful intercession, we may obtain the favors we seek in this novena:

Heavenly Father, you have given us the shining example of St. Josemaría Escrivá. You granted him the grace and ability to minister to many when he founded Opus Dei. He shared Your word and taught people how to make their daily life and work holy. For it is in our daily life and work that we can come to know You, O God!
St. Josemaría Escrivá, we know that you are particularly close with God and so we humbly beg you to hear and answer our intentions through the grace of Our Lord.

Please show us how to be holy like St. Josemaría Escrivá so that every day we may see Your loving hand in our work, our families, in our friends and in all that we do. WHEN I FIND PRAYER DIFFICULT
Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-97) once said that love was her vocation in life. Never was this vocation tested more than in the last nine months of her life as she lay dying with tuberculosis. She wrote a note to her sister Céline
‘Here is great love, to love Jesus without feeling the sweetness of his love – that is love pushed to the point of heroism.'
TODAY'S PRAYER: Jesus, I believe. Help my unbelief. Jesus, you are the real bedrock of my hope. Help me always to rely on you, especially in times of doubt and trouble. Amen.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, the needs of your people open your heart in love for each of us. You care for us when we are lost, sympathize with us in loneliness, and comfort us in mourning; you are closest to us where we are weakest. You love us most when we love ourselves least; you forgive us most when we forgive ourselves least; and you call us to spread your love in whatever way we can.
Lord Jesus, your heart is moved with compassion when we are suffering, when we need your help, and when we pray for each other. I ask you to listen to my prayer during this Novena, and grant what I ask.

DAY 3 - JUNE 20
O Mother of my God and Saviour Jesus Christ, thou art indeed my true Mother, and I am indeed thy child. What happiness for me thus to think of thee, and to be able to call thee my Mother. O Queen of Angels, the title of Child of Mary is more glorious in my eyes, and more sweet to me than all the great titles so boasted of in the world. To be called thy child is dearer to me by far than the honour and dignity of any name on earth. But alas! how utterly unworthy I am of a holy Mother, who might well be ashamed of such a child as I am. Thou art pure as light, pious, humble, full of charity and sweetness; thy heart is as a furnace of divine love: and I am stained with countless sins, attached to earth, proud, harsh to my brethren, and cold towards my God. O my Mother, I detest my iniquities... obtain pardon for me: I groan under my miseries, and I spread them before thy pitying eyes, that thou mayest cure them. Make them somewhat like to thee, save me from my evil inclinations, particularly from..... Mother of God, grow not weary at my crying, turn not away thy face from me because I am so defiled; but put an end to my importunity by helping me speedily for, till thou hast heard me, I will not cease to cry to thee. O my Mother, my Mother Mary, come to my help. Be thou my Mother, and make me thy worthy child. Amen.
PRAYER: O Mother of Perpetual Succour, behold me a miserable sinner at thy feet; I have recourse to thee and put my trust in thee. O Mother of Mercy have pity upon me. I hear thee called by all the refuge and the hope of sinners, be then my refuge and my hope. Succour me for the love of Jesus Christ; stretch forth thy hand to me a poor sinner, who recommend and dedicate myself to thee as thy perpetual servant. I bless and thank GOD for having in His mercy given me this confidence in thee, the pledge as I believe of my eternal salvation. Alas! Too often in past times have I miserably fallen, because I had not recourse to thee! I know that with thy help I shall conquer. I know that thou will help me if I recommend myself to thee; but I fear lest in the occasion of falling. I should cease to call upon thee and so should lose my soul. This, then, is the grace I seek from thee; and I beg of thee, as far as I know how and can, to obtain it for me; namely, in the assaults of hell, always to have recourse to thee and to say to thee: O Mary help me; Mother of Perpetual Succour, suffer me not to lose my God. HUMILITY
Immaculate Mother of God, and our Mother by grace, we the beloved of thy Immaculate Heart, come to thee on this second day of this Novena to pray for the grace of humility.
Mary, our Mother, our Confidence, we invoke thy most sweet Heart that we may be thy humble servants and thereby servants of thy son, our Lord Jesus Christ. May we live in humility within the refuge of thy Immaculate Heart, as members of the Holy Catholic Church. Obtain for us the grace to live in true faith with courage to serve readily and joyfully. Intercede, O Holy Mother of God, Mediatrix of All Graces, so that we may have a joyful acceptance of our trials.

PRAYER: May the holy virtue of humility, in which thou excelled to the highest degree, O Ever-Virgin Mother of God, guard us against suspicion, jealousy, envy, against self-sensitivity, against the bearing of grudges, against all thinking of superiority over others. With the fire of thy Heart warm the coldness of our hearts. May we humbly serve Jesus in souls everywhere possible with a spirit of helpfulness, cheerfulness, and strength, without compromise to truth, but in total consecration to thy Immaculate Heart which is at one with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. May the humility we acquire and ask for gain us confidence in the power of thy intercession for our salvation and for the protection and growth of Holy Mother Church. Assist us so that we serve in the present, faithful to tradition, and look toward the future with undiminished trust in the power of thy Immaculate Heart. Guard us, O Holy Immaculate Mother, from the spirit of quarrelsomeness, so that we may live in peace and harmony with our families and others and thereby lead those not now in the Church, to unity in the fullness of the One True Faith, the Holy Catholic Church. O Mary, thou prayed, "My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. Because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid; for behold, all generations shall call me blessed." (Luke 1:47-48) It was thy humility that made thee great in the divine Light. Send forth now thy Angels and our Guardian Angels, in particular; also the Angel that guards our nation that we may always live by truth. Amen.

DAY 1 - JUNE 20
ISAIAH 40:31
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
REFLECTION: Disappointment is reality for each of us. The way we handle defeat affects our attitude? If we pout and surrender, we feel helpless and glum. However, if we anticipate another chance to do better and prepare ourselves for the challenge, we become spirited and revived. With reliance on God, we convince ourselves that we can go beyond and above our abilities. We are amazed at the new energy level we attain.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me strength to bounce back after disappointment. Let me turn to you for strength to handle the situation and give me hope for a better tomorrow.
O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, I choose you this day and forever to be my special patrons and advocates; thee, Saint Peter, Prince of the Apostles, because thou art the Rock, upon which Almighty God hath built His Church; thee, Saint Paul, because thou wast fore-chosen by God as the Vessel of election and the Preacher of truth in the whole world.

Obtain for me, I pray you, lively faith, firm hope, and burning love; complete detachment from myself, contempt of the world, patience in adversity, humility in prosperity, attention in prayer, purity of heart, a right intention in all my works, diligence in fulfilling the duties of my state of life, constancy in my resolutions, resignation to the will of God and perseverance in the grace of God even unto death; that so, by means of your intercession and your glorious merits, I may be able to overcome the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil, and may be made worthy to appear before the chief and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, Who with the Father and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth for endless ages, to enjoy His presence and love Him forever.
