GOODNESS

Let us bow down in humility at the power and grandeur of the Holy Spirit. Let us worship the Holy Trinity and give glory today to the Paraclete, our Advocate.

Oh Holy Spirit, by thy power, Christ was raised from the dead to save us all. By thy grace, miracles are performed in Jesus' name. By thy love, we are protected from evil. And so, we ask with humility and a beggar's heart for thy gift of Goodness within us.

We want to be like thy Saints in heaven. Holy Spirit, renew us by thy power with thy Goodness that we may bring the Good News to the world. Amen.

Anthony, through your teaching and preaching you bore witness to the loving presence of God in all of creation. Now that you have come into the fullness of the kingdom, pray for us that our lives might also proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to all humanity.

PRAYER: Almighty, Eternal God, you have given your people St. Anthony as an outstanding preacher and intercessor in times of need. Grant that with his help we may follow in the example of Christian living and experience your support in all adversities. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Anthony, “Defender of the Faith,” help us to find the truth held in the rich heritage of our Church's teachings and community life. {pause} We are companions of St. Anthony, Defender of the faith: may we recommit ourselves to a deeper appreciation of the gift of our Catholic Faith and our call to faithfulness and holiness, we pray:

BRIEF STORY OF ST. ANTHONY'S LIFE

ST. ANTHONY PREACHES TO THE FISH

Known as the “Evangelical Doctor,” St. Anthony defended the teachings of the church through a new evangelization faithful to the Pope and the Magisterium. His opponents sometimes prevented people from coming to hear him preach.

On one such occasion in Rimini, St. Anthony looked out to the sea and began preaching to the fish. Thousands of fish came to the surface, and arranging themselves in rows, eagerly listened. Word of this amazing wonder spread and the people soon came to hear and believe.

I salute and honor thee, O powerful helper, St. Anthony. The Christian world confidently turns to thee and experiences thy tender compassion and powerful assistance in so many necessities and sufferings that I am encouraged in my need to seek thy help in obtaining a favorable answer to my request for the favor I seek in this novena. (State your intention). O holy St. Anthony, I beseech thee, obtain for me the grace that I desire.

O wonderful St. Anthony, glorious on account of the fame of your miracles, and through the condescension of Jesus in coming in the form of a little child to rest in your arms, obtain for me of His bounty the grace which I ardently desire from the depths of my heart .

You who were so compassionate toward miserable sinners, regard not the unworthiness of those who pray to you, but the glory of God that it may once again be magnified by the granting of the particular request (State your intention) which I now ask for with persevering earnestness. Amen.

MEDITATION: At the Baptism of Jesus and Transfiguration, the Father's words were heard: “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased, listen to Him”: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.”; “So that all who will honor the Son in the same way as they honor the Father. Who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” (Jn. 5,23)

O my God, I believe, I adore, I hope, I love Thee! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, nor adore, nor hope, nor love Thee.

O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore Thee profoundly! I offer Thee the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Present in all the Tabernacles of the world, for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference committed against Thee in which He Himself is offended. Amen.
