DAY 9 - MAY 21

PRAYER FOR MY INTENTION WHICH SEEMS QUITE IMPOSSIBLE

Glorious St. Rita, you are the saint of things despaired of. I pray that you intercede for me in this thing which seems impossible. I promise to use this favour, when granted, to better my life, to proclaim God's mercy, and make you widely known and loved for the glory of God the Father.

PRAYER: Dear Saint Rita, during your entire life on earth you found your happiness by following the will of our heavenly Father. Help me to be as trusting of God in all his designs for me. Help me this day to give myself to him as you did, without limit, without fear, without counting the cost. Help me to be generous in serving the needs of others, patient in all difficulties, forgiving toward all who injure me. Help me to learn more deeply the great mystery of the cross of Jesus, so that by embracing it as you did, I may come to experience its power to heal and to save. Amen.

O Mary, Thou hast always been the special guide and protectress of Saint Peter's successor, the Bishop of Rome. Keep our present Holy Father in Thy loving care. Defend him from all harm; and give him all those gifts he needs to be the faithful shepherd of Thy Son's flock.

DAY 5 - MAY 21

PHILIP'S TENDERNESS OF HEART

Philip, my glorious Advocate, teach me to look at all I see around me after thy pattern as the creatures of God. Let me never forget that the same God who made me made the whole world, and all men and all animals that are in it. Gain me the grace to love all God's works for God's sake, and all men for the sake of my Lord and Saviour who has redeemed them by the Cross. And especially let me be tender and compassionate and loving towards all Christians, as my brethren in grace. And do thou, who on earth was so tender to all, be especially tender to us, and feel for us, bear with us in all our troubles, and gain for us from God, with whom thou dwellest in beatific light, all the aids necessary for bringing us safely to Him and to thee. Amen.

PRAYER: O glorious St. Philip, who wast so favored by God with the gift of consoling and assisting thy spiritual children at the hour of death, be also my advocate and father when I shall find myself at that dreadful moment. Obtain for me that at that hour the devil may not conquer me, nor temptation overcome me, nor fear itself revile me; but that, strengthened by a lively faith, a fervent hope and, a sincere charity, I may sustain with patience and perseverance that supreme struggle, and that, full of confidence in the mercy of the Lord, and in the infinite merits of Jesus Christ and the protection of the Most Blessed Mary, I may deserve to die the death of the just, and be united with thee and all the saints in the blessed home of Paradise, to praise and enjoy the Lord forever. Amen.
