1⃣ ST. SEBASTIAN
♦ The oldest historical account of St. Sebastian is found in a commentary on the psalms by St. Ambrose.
♦ During Diocletian‘s persecution of the Christians, Sebastian visited them in prison, bringing supplies and comfort.
♦ He was a gifted healer (using the Sign of the Cross) and he also converted his fellow soldiers, as well as the governor of Rome.
♦ His body was pierced with arrows, and he was left for dead. But he was found still alive by those who came to bury him. He recovered, but refused to flee.
♦ One day he took up a position near where the emperor was to pass. He accosted the emperor, denouncing him for his cruelty to Christians. This time the sentence of death was carried out.
♦ St. Sebastian is typically represented with arrows in his flesh, or being saved by Saint Irene.
♦ One of the seven principal churches of Rome is built over his relics and burial site.
♦ St. Sebastian is the patron of soldiers, plague stricken, archers, athletes and holy Christian death.
♦ St. Sebastian is also a patron against plagues, as once a plague was afflicting the Lombards. When they built an altar to St. Sebastian in the Church of Saint Peter in the Province of Pavia, the plague ended.

2⃣ ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI
♦ St. Vincent Pallotti's dream was to establish a community ["Pious Society of Missions" (the Pallottines)] in order to enable lay people to assume their proper role in the mission of the Church.
♦ St. Vincent Pallotti served as a prison chaplain in Rome where he often worked with the condemned, saving many souls.
♦ He had a true willingness to serve all, especially the poor and the marginalized.
♦ While speaking with the young Giovanni Mastai-Ferretti in 1817, St. Vincent Pallotti predicted that he would one day be elected to the papacy. Mastai-Ferretti was elected Bishop of Rome on June 16, 1846.
♦ During the cholera epidemic of 1837, St. Vincent Pallotti organized a barefoot procession of religious. This action was penitential and showed that they were not afraid of the disease.
♦ He once dressed up as an old woman to hear the confession of a man who threatened "to kill the first priest who came through the door".
♦ In the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, St. Vincent Pallotti implored the people to stop rioting by showing them an image of Mary, Mother of Divine Love.
♦ St. Vincent Pallotti exchanged once his new shoes for that of a poor boy. Giving away his new clothing to the poor would become a lifelong habit for the saint.
♦ He organized schools for shoemakers, tailors, coachmen, carpenters, and gardeners so that they could better work at their trade, as well as evening classes for young farmers and unskilled workers.
♦ He soon became known as a "second St. Philip Neri".
