1⃣ THE FIRST NOVENA is to ST. FRANCIS XAVIER (GOENCHO SAIB)
♦ Francis Xavier was born Francisco de Jasso y Xavier of a noble family of Basque stock on April 7, 1506. During his studies in Paris (1525-1536), he became involved in the small enthusiastic band that was organized by Ignatius of Loyola into the Society of Jesus.
♦ St. Francis Xavier has performed a lot of miracles.
♦ He has raised 10 people from the dead.
♦ He is known as the "Apostle of the Indies," and the "Apostle of Japan."
♦ St. Francis Xavier evangelized for 10 years, thus helping others in many places.
♦ He was instrumental in spreading the Catholic faith from Goa (Portuguese territory in western India), over South India, Ceylon, Bengal, Cape Comorin, the Moluccas, Spice Islands, Malacca and through the China Sea to Japan.
♦ He died alone, except for one companion, a Chinese youth named Antiry, on the Island of Sancian, awaiting a ship to China.
♦ The saint's body reached Goa in March 1554. Until 1635, the incorrupt body was kept in several churches before being taken to the Bom Jesus Basilica. Today, the body is housed in a glass casket on top of a specially built altar mausoleum in the church, visible to the public at all times.

2⃣ THE SECOND NOVENA is to OUR LADY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
♦ It is an infallible doctrine of the Catholic Church promulgated by Pope Pius IX , ex cathedral (from the chair of St. Peter) on December 8, 1854. The Papal Bull reads:
♦ “We declare, pronounce and define that the doctrine which asserts that the Blessed Virgin Mary, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God, and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, was preserved free from every stain of original sin is a doctrine revealed by God and, for this reason, must be firmly and constantly believed by all the faithful.”
♦ “With these words in 1854, Pope Pius IX in the Papal Bull Ineffabilis Deus, declared Mary's Immaculate Conception to be dogma. Pius was simply affirming a long-held belief of many Christians East and West before him, that Mary was conceived free of the stain of original sin, on account of Christ's work, in order to bear God-made-flesh.”
♦ The dogma is confirmed four years later (in 1858) by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself in the most famous of her apparitions at Lourdes. At Lourdes, when asked her name by St. Bernadette, Mary responded in an extraordinary fashion, saying, “I am the Immaculate Conception.”
♦ The Feast of the Immaculate Conception helps us to reflect on Mary's life.
♦ It is important for us to strive to imitate Mary as the ideal example of the Christian life lived for God.
♦ This novena will give us the opportunity to ask Mary to intercede for the grace to imitate her profound love of God.
We begin praying this NOVENA from SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29th
The Feast of OUR LADY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION is on DECEMBER 8th!
