REFLECTION: ST. LAWRENCE IS TOTALLY BURNT ON THE GRIDIRON AND PRAYS FOR HIS ROMAN PERSECUTORS
The prefect bade him to be turned.
Then Lawrence spoke: 'I am well baked,
And whether better cooked or raw,
Make trial by a taste of me.'
He said these words in way of jest;
Then rising shining eyes to heaven
And sighing deeply, thus he prayed
With pity for unholy Rome.
PRAYER: Glorious St. Lawrence, model of Christian fortitude, I implore you in your loving kindness to pray for me before the throne of God. To you I have recourse in the problems that daily surround me. Shield me against my selfishness and my indifference to God and my neighbour. Inspire me to imitate your Christian virtues. May your blessing be with me always, so that I may see and serve Christ in others and work for His Kingdom. DAY 7 - AUGUST 8
Faithful Saint Clare, loyal daughter of the Church, friend and confidante of Popes, intercede for the holy Church and look graciously from Heaven on our Holy Father Pope. Enlighten us to remove from our souls all that hinders the progress of the Church on earth. Grant that we may share your great love for the Church of God and spread His kingdom on earth by a holy life. You, who worked miracles in the presence of the Pope on earth, obtain for us the graces we need, now that you stand in the presence of the most high God in Heaven.

DAY 7 - AUGUST 8
O St. Philomena, you received help from Jesus and special grace of perseverance when you were tortured and put to death. That special grace was the gift of courage. Your bold declaration to die for your faith is a proof that God will not abandon his children. At times, I doubt God's place in my own life; in times of difficulties, I easily complain of his absence. Make me understand that God takes care of me, anticipates my needs and protects me from danger. Help me to trust God and put myself entirely in his hands.
PRAYER: O faithful Virgin and glorious Martyr, St. Philomena, who works so many miracles on behalf of the poor and sorrowing, have pity on me. You know the multitude and diversity of my needs. Behold me at your feet, full of misery, but full of hope. I entreat your charity, O great saint! Graciously hear me and obtain from God a favorable answer to the request which I now humbly lay before you,

Glorious Saint Roque, thou wast not twenty years old when the death of thy parents put thee in possession of a rich inheritance, and renouncing all, clothed as a poor pilgrim, didst set out to visit the Sanctuaries of Holy Rome, we beseech thee to detach our hearts from all the vanities of this world, from natural affections, goods and honors, and fill them solely with love for Christian virtue, God and His holy service.

PRAYER: Dear mendicant Pilgrim, you once took care of sufferers from the plague and were always ready to help others by kind service and fervent prayers. You yourself had no home and you died in a dungeon. No wonder countless invalids have confidently invoked your help. Please grant a cure to this patient, (Name), and help us all become spiritually healthy.
O great St. Roque, deliver us, we beseech thee, from the scourges of God; through thy intercession, preserve our bodies from contagious diseases, and our souls from the contagion of sin. Obtain for us salubrious air; but, above all, purity of heart. Assist us to make good use of health, to bear sufferings with patience; and, after thy example, to live in the practice of penance and charity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness which thou has merited by thy virtues. Amen.
