BLESSING OF HOMES - DURING EASTERTIDE

THE BLESSING OF HOUSES DURING EASTERTIDE

The parish priest or any other priest with the parish priest's permission, vested in a surplice and white stole, accompanied by a minister bearing a vessel of water blessed during the Paschal Vigil before the addition of the holy oils, goes to the houses in the parish, sprinkling them with this blessed water.

Entering the house he says:

V. Peace be upon this house.

R. And upon all who dwell herein.

Then he sprinkles the main rooms of the house and the occupants, saying meanwhile:

Ant: I saw water issuing from the right side of the temple, alleluia: and all to whom that water came were saved and they shall continue to sing: alleluia, alleluia.

Ps. 117, 1.Give thanks to the Lord; the Lord is gracious, his mercy endures for ever.

V. Glory be to the Father.

The Antiphon is repeated.

Then he says:

V. Show us, O Lord, thy mercy, alleluia.

R. And grant us thy salvation, alleluia.

V. Lord, hear my prayer.

R. And let my cry come to thee.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

LET US PRAY: Graciously hear us, holy Lord and Father, almighty and eternal God: and whereas in the flight from Egypt thou didst divert the angel of death from Hebrew houses signed with the blood of that lamb which was a figure of our own Pasch in which Christ is immolated, so now in thy goodness send thy holy angel from heaven to watch over all who dwell in this house. May his coming put new heart in them; may he protect them, and be with them to defend them from all harm. Through the same Christ our Lord.

R. Amen.

The above rite is used even if the blessing of houses takes place on any other day of Paschaltide
